Leading Automation Company Introduces New Feature to Pair of Models
FANUC Adds Arbitrary Speed Threading to 0i-TD and 0i Mate-TD CNC Series
FANUC Corporation has introduced a new optional feature to the 0i-TD and the 0i Mate-TD CNCs. Called Arbitrary Speed Threading (AST), it allows the user to regulate the spindle speed during thread cutting as necessary. This feature aims to reduce chatter during threading, as well as ensure the cutting tool will remain synced with the speed of the spindle. This works to create a programmed lead during the threading process. AST seeks to automate what used to be done manually and was highly technical.
Arbitrary Speed Threading makes repetitive machining easier, as well. AST permits the same thread shape to be cut even if it requires a change in spindle speed between the roughing and finishing passes. (Cs control is necessary to use this feature.) AST also protects against damage to spindles. Without AST the user cannot change spindle speed, as this could result in a change in thread lead and damage the part.
Another attribute of AST is that it allows the finishing and/or repair of an existing thread. With this, it becomes quick and easy to copy current thread patterns. AST also replaces the technical skill of manual rethreading. AST rethreading makes oil and gas work more efficient given how often rethreading of pipe and threading large diameter pieces occur on the job site.
Arbitrary Speed Threading was previously added to the FANUC 30i-B and 30i-A series CNCs.
